Bruchstraße 9, 39288 Burg
This synagogue is well worth seeing, because you won't find many of them in this region. It was built close to the shore of river "Ihle" in 1851 and was used as a school building and apartment house by the jewish community. From 1893 on people kind of desecrated the building by using it as a depot and workshop. This saved them from destruction during Kristallnacht in November 1938. Inside you can gaze at an L-shaped empora and an emblazed barrel-vault, which shows the cloudy sky and the red heat which is comparable to the Old Testament story of the appearance of God. In the course of time most of the inventory was lost. The roof was renewed in 1997/98.
